모압 여인 룻이 나오미에게 이르되 원하건대 내가 밭으로 가서 내가 누구에게 은혜를 입으면 그를 따라서 이삭을 줍겠나이다 하니 나오미가 그에게 이르되 내 딸아 갈지어다 하매

베들레헴에 도착한 룻은 생존을 위한 이삭 줍기라는 방법을 나오미에게 제안합니다. 또한 그녀는 나오미에 대한 변함없는 헌신과 사랑을 말에서 행동으로 옮겨 행하는 믿음을 보여주고 있습니다.

"은혜를 입는 자의 뒤를 따라"라는 표현에서 룻의 겸손과 용기를 발견합니다. 이방인으로서 거부당할 수 있는 상황이며, 자기 주장대로 사는 어지러운 시대에 하나님의 헤세드(인자하심)를 기대하는 그녀의 모습은 자신의 처지를 비관하지 않고 적극적으로 찾아 나서고 있는 것입니다.

이런 룻의 적극적인 생존과 은혜를 구하는 모습과 달리 나오미는 낯선 땅에서 이삭줍기를 나서는 룻에게 구체적인 조언이나 걱정의 말도 없이 '내 딸아 갈지어다"라는 무너지고 텅빈 자아를 드러내고 있을 뿐입니다.

어려운 상황에서 불평하기보다 할 수 있는 일을 찾아나서는 룻의 모습은 아름다운 소문이 되고 보아스에게도 전해집니다. 이방여인의 용기와 믿음은 오늘 우리에게 신선한 자극이 되며, 행하는 믿음을 보여주고 있습니다. 오늘, 우리에게 맡겨진 삶을 담대히 감당하며 믿음으로 나아갑시다. 아멘

Bold Faith
​Ruth 2:2 (NIV)
​And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.” Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.”

​Upon arriving in Bethlehem, Ruth suggests to Naomi the method of gleaning—collecting leftover grain—for their survival. Furthermore, she demonstrates a faith that moves her unwavering devotion and love for Naomi from words into action.
​We find Ruth's humility and courage in the phrase, "pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor."

In a time of disorder where people lived according to their own claims, and as a foreigner who could easily be rejected, her expectation of God's Hesed (lovingkindness) shows her actively seeking favor and not dwelling on her difficult circumstances.

​In contrast to Ruth's active approach to survival and seeking favor, Naomi reveals her broken and empty self by offering no specific advice or words of worry to Ruth, who is going out to glean in a strange land, simply saying, "Go ahead, my daughter."

​Ruth's willingness to find what she can do, rather than complaining about her difficult situation, becomes a beautiful rumor and is even conveyed to Boaz. The courage and faith of this foreign woman offer a fresh stimulus to us today, demonstrating a faith that acts. Let us today boldly manage the life entrusted to us and move forward with faith. Amen.
