이에 계획하고 두 금송아지를 만들고 무리에게 말하기를 너희가 다시는 예루살렘에 올라갈 것이 없도다 이스라엘아 이는 너희를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 올린 너희의 신들이라 하고

솔로몬 이후 북이스라엘의 왕 여로보암은 백성이 남유다 예루살렘 성전에 예배하러 가는 것을 두려워했습니다. 그래서 금송아지 우상을 만들고 "너희를 애굽 땅에서 인도 할 신"이라고 거짓말을 했습니다. 자신의 왕권을 지키기 위해 하나님의 말씀을 왜곡하고 백성을 우상숭배로 이끈 것입니다.

"나만 괜찮으면 돼"라는 이기심은 신앙의 본질을 왜곡시킵니다. 여로보암은 자신의 안위를 위해 하나님을 버렸고, 편리함을 명분 삼아 우상을 만들었습니다. 그는 하나님의 구원 역사를 금송아지의 공로로 바꿔치기하며 백성 전체를 죄악으로 몰아넣었습니다. 개인의 욕심이 공동체를 타락시키는 무서운 결과를 보여줍니다.

내 유익을 위해 진리를 타협하고 있지는 않은지 돌아봐야 합니다. "다들 이렇게 한다"며 불의에 동참하거나, 편리함을 위해 예배를 소홀히 하거나, 내 이익을 위해 정직함을 포기하는 순간이 있습니다. 때론 내 자리, 이익을 내려놓고, 말씀대로 순종하며, 하나님 영광을 구하는 결단을 해야 합니다.

주님, 나만 괜찮으면 된다는 이기심을 용서하옵소서. 편리함과 이익을 따라 진리를 외면하지 않게 하시고, 말씀대로 순종하는 믿음을 주소서. 내 욕심이 다른 이들을 죄로 이끌지 않도록 책임과 깨어있는 믿음을 주옵소서, 오직 주님의 영광만을 구하는 삶을 살게 하소서. 아멘

이대로의 삶이 괜찮을까? 고민할 때가 있다. 이때가 바로 하나님을 올려봐야 할 때이다.

​The Distortion of Truth for Personal Gain
Jeroboam, the king of Northern Israel after Solomon, feared that his people would go to the temple in Jerusalem (Southern Judah) to worship. To protect his own throne, he created golden calves and lied, saying, "These are the gods who led you out of Egypt." He distorted God's word and led the people into idolatry just to secure his power.

​The Danger of Spiritual Self-Centeredness
The selfish mindset of "As long as I’m okay" warps the essence of faith. Jeroboam abandoned God for his own safety and used convenience as an excuse to create idols. By attributing God’s history of salvation to golden calves, he plunged the entire nation into sin. This serves as a chilling reminder of how individual greed can corrupt an entire community.

​Choosing Obedience Over Convenience
We must reflect on whether we are compromising the truth for our own benefit. There are moments when we join in injustice because "everyone else does it," neglect worship for the sake of convenience, or abandon honesty for profit. Sometimes, we must lay down our positions and interests to obey the Word and seek the glory of God.

Lord, forgive our selfishness that seeks only personal comfort. Help us not to turn away from the truth for the sake of convenience or gain. Grant us a faith that obeys Your Word and a sense of responsibility so that our greed does not lead others into sin. May we live a life that seeks only Your glory. Amen.
